Talking Vision 484 at the 2026 Annapolis Boat Show
At the 2026 Annapolis Boat Show, I joined Vision Yachts to talk about choosing the 484, planning for life aboard, and taking the leap with hull number one. Watch the interview here.
Two years ago, Kelly and I went to the Annapolis Boat Show thinking we would buy a Vision 444. We left having signed for the first 484, a boat that existed only in drawings and renderings. At the 2026 show, I had the chance to sit down with Vision Yachts and talk about why we made that choice.
A boat for the way we want to live
Our search was always about finding a boat that Kelly and I could sail together and make our home. We wanted offshore capability, comfortable living space, room for the dogs, and storage for the toys that would let us explore once we reached an anchorage.
The 444 was the boat that felt right to us. The 484 offered the possibility of more room while keeping the approach that had drawn us to Vision in the first place.
For me, a big part of that was repairability. I work in IT and enjoy technology, but I also want to understand the systems aboard our boat and have a reasonable chance of troubleshooting them somewhere remote. Kelly was looking closely at safety for us and the dogs, life at anchor, and all the places we could get comfortable once the sailing was done.
Why we were willing to be first
Signing for hull number one meant accepting that we could not walk through the finished boat or know exactly how every detail would turn out. What gave us confidence was the work Vision was already doing, our conversations with James and current owners, and the team that would be building Neverland.
We also liked the opportunity to be involved as the design took shape. That involvement brings decisions and patience along with the excitement. Neverland is still being built, so we are still living that part of the story.
If you would like the longer version—including the other boats we considered and Kelly’s insistence on a mimosa before we signed—we have written it up in Why We Chose the Vision 484 and Hull Number One. You can also follow the photos and videos in our ongoing Building Neverland journal.
Thanks to the Vision team for the conversation and for sharing the interview.
